The OPL Master's Division is our 35+ league that has been running for three complete seasons. Kelowna City F.C. Franco's has won the league each year of the Master's existence and this year there are two hungry teams ready to try knocking them off.
ICLEAN4U Misfits are two points back of leaders KCity Franco's with only one loss on the season, proving that they belong near the top of the table by not dropping meaningful points and staying in good form with a well-rounded squad. Acera F.C. round out the top three with 13 points which is two wins back of leaders KCity Franco's.
Kelowna City Franco's manager Luigi Coccaro works hard each offseason to improve his squad with undeniable contract deals to keep his top players motivated and committed. The league, however, is determined to knock them off as we are just over the halfway point of the Master's Division season with lots of points to be won and lost.
In the final game before the holiday break, Kelowna City Franco's won the derby match 4-3 against Acera with a come from behind victory to upset the challengers without manager Coccaro in attendance. There were rumblings that he set himself on an early Christmas vacation away from the team, but rumours are unconfirmed. The winning goal was scored with just a few minutes to go by under-ager Davion Hutchinson who was acquired this season from the Misfits.
ENCO Construction Football Club have been hit and miss throughout the season as they have not secured consistent personnel from week to week which really challenges a squad. They come back from the break on a 2-6 record so far this season.
We look ahead to the Match of the Week on Sunday January 5th at 7:00pm, Acera F.C. take on PRIMO who are still winless on the campaign. It's now or never for David Cline's PRIMO squad if they want any chance of progressing their season toward the two-leg playoffs. What better message to send to the league than to start 2025 with three points. We can wait to take it all in as the crucial part of the competition is still ahead.
