Happy New Year from the OPL

Sean Murphy of Acera maintains possession against Kelowna City Franco's attackers en route to a loss

The 2025 year is upon us which means we're more than halfway through the Okanagan Premier League season. It's been a great first phase of the season with a couple teams coming out as surprise forces throughout the three divisions, some of the top teams have held form and some of our newly promoted teams have had a lowly start.

We wanted to thank all managers for doing their best in the organization of their team for the league (I swear it gets easier) and the sponsors for their selflessness to make the league the best it can be. Sponsorship has really helped out some of our teams come into their own and have the best experience possible.

The Premiership Division has never been closer; after 10 weeks Real Unidad, HDC Kelowna City and Kelowna United are deadlocked at 24 points a piece with records of 8-2. The seeding is in that order as goal differential has Unidad +32, City +26, United +30 but with an extra penalty shootout loss.

The Championship Division has seen its' share of fireworks as there has never been this many 'sending-offs' in OPL history. Hopefully teams can start to manage their discipline better in the latter stages of the season. DMA United is back up top with a comfortable 5 point lead with one more game played than some of the other teams. We are still trying to find out what DMA really stands for but we'll let that one brew. We can already see that it will be a tight race for the playoffs in the middle of the table. Stay tuned for what happens!

The Master's Division has familiar company at the top with back to back to back Champions, Kelowna City Franco's leading the league by two points over a bolstered Misfits squad that only has one loss on the season. Acera isn't far behind however time could be running out for them to reach the top if City continue performing at this standard. Will anyone be able to take the trophy off Kelowna City Franco's hands this season?

We're going to keep bringing the blog posts in moving toward the restart of the season. Remember, rosters are locked now so get your commitment from the lads for the rest of the season.

The OPL wishes you all the Happiest of New Years and may the 2025 season bring you the successes you've been dreaming of. Enjoy the rest of your holidays.

Commissioner, Brandon McCallum
